One dead in 'water incident' at Whangārei Heads

One person has died in a "water incident" at Northland's Whangārei Heads this morning.

Emergency services were alerted to a person "in trouble in the water" at about 9.35am.

"Sadly, they were unable to be revived," a police spokesperson said in a statement.

"The death will be referred to the Coroner."
