Parts of central New Zealand may see heavy rain and severe gales today, MetService says – but the worst of this week's wild weather is over.
Tasman northwest of Motueka is under a heavy rain watch from 8am to 4pm today.
MetService said: "A period of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms, and amounts may approach warning criteria."
Back in the North Island, Manawatū and the Tararua District are under a strong wind watch from 4pm to 10pm today.
"West to northwest winds may approach severe gales in exposed places," MetService said.
The South Taranaki coast and coastal Whanganui is also under a strong wind watch from 1pm to 5pm today. MetService said "westerly winds may approach severe gale in exposed places".
NIWA Weather's Saturday forecast shows the majority of the South island still expecting some rain, along with the bottom half of the North Island. The rest of the country can expect to see a bit of sun breaking through the clouds.
Yesterday's wild weather saw nearly 100 Air NZ flights cancelled, homes at risk of flooding from king tides and communities without power.
