An iguana and a leopard tortoise stolen from a reptile park in Wellsford has been safely returned after being snatched from their home last month.
Warkworth Police Station officer Sergeant Dan McDermott said police were alerted to the burglary on March 25.
"Since then, the 17-year-old leopard tortoise has been returned and now his eight-year-old iguana friend joins him back at the park."
Police have received a number of calls from the public and were following positive lines of inquiry to locate the animal thieves.
Police said the incident was distressing not only for the reptiles but also their carers, and asked anyone who knows who stole the two animals to contact them.
"No piece of information is too small and will ensure police can hold those involved to account."
