The death of OJ Simpson, who was acquitted of the double murder of his ex-wife and her friend in 1994, has sparked a widespread and immediate response.
Simpson died of prostate cancer in Las Vegas on Wednesday (local time). He was 76.
The ex-NFL player earned fame and fortune through football and show business but his legacy was the killings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles in 1994.

Evidence found at the scene pointed overwhelmingly to Simpson as the perpetrator.
The jury found him not guilty of the murder at the so-called "trial of the century" in 1995, but a separate civil trial jury found Simpson liable for the deaths and ordered him to pay US$33.5m (NZ$56m) to the families of Brown and Goldman.
Reaction to Simpson's death has been varied - to say the least.
His family announced his death in a post to the social media platform X.
"On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer," they wrote"
"He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
"During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace."
Caitlyn Jenner tweeted "Good Riddance #OJ Simpson."
The former Olympic athlete was previously married to Kris Jenner, the ex-wife of Rob Kardashian Sr who was part of Simpson's defence team.
Fred Goldman, father of Ron Goldman told NBC News Simpson's death was "no great loss to the world."
"The only thing I have to say is it’s just further reminder of Ron being gone all these years."
Attorney Gloria Allred, who once represented Brown's family, told ABC News she felt the system failed Nicole and battered women everywhere.
"I don’t mourn for OJ Simpson. I do mourn for Nicole Brown Simpson and her family and they should be remembered.”
Attorney Alan Dershowitz, an adviser on Simpson's legal team told The Associated Press that OJ would leave a "mixed legacy."
"OJ Simpson played an important role in exposing the racial divisions in America. His trial also exposed police corruption among some officials in the Los Angeles Police Department.
"Great athlete. Many people think he was guilty. Some think he was innocent."
