The owner of an Auckland sushi restaurant has been moved out of intensive care after being stabbed in a horror assault two weeks ago.

However, the Browns Bay Business Association said she has a "long way ahead" of full recovery.

On the evening of March 28, emergency services responded to reports of an assault at the Neco Sushi premises in Browns Bay at 5.48pm.

The victim of the assault was transported to Auckland Hospital with serious injuries, while the person responsible died at the scene from a "self-inflicted injury," police said at the time.

On April 1, the family of the owner also thanked the "heroes" who were present and intervened at the time of the incident.

Today, the Browns Bay Business Association posted an update on the owner's recovery on the Browns Bay & Friends Facebook page.

"[The woman] and her sons wish to reiterate their thanks to everyone in the community who helped her on the day of the incident. They also wish to thank many more people who have since reached out to them to offer their support and prayer," the post read.

"They described it as 'overwhelming', and said they wished they knew all those wonderful people to thank in person.

"Neco Sushi will remain closed until the family is better placed to make decisions about the way forward. We have no doubt that the community will continue to support them on [her] journey back to health, and when the business re-opens."
