Person found dead after house fire in Whitianga named

Police have named the person who died following a house fire in Whitianga last week.

He was 47-year-old Duane Whiteman of Whitianga.

Officers were called to an address on Cholmondeley Crescent shortly after 5pm on April 8.

"The death has been referred to the coroner," a spokesperson said.

Investigations remain ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
