The Warriors depth at fullback remains a key talking point heading into their round six clash against the Manly Sea Eagles.
With the return of Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad at fullback last weekend against the Rabbitohs, the Warriors have now had three different players start with the number one on their back this season.
Warriors head coach Andrew Webster was pleased with Nicoll-Klokstad’s return and said his performance reinforced the depth that the squad has.
“The energy he has is unbelievable and I'm not shocked…I'm really happy with his first game back,” said Webster.
Nicoll-Klokstad had been sitting on the sidelines with a hamstring injury but returned to the starting team with a solid performance in the Warriors 34-4 win against the Bunnies.
“It was an up and down recovery for me and got to a point where I was thinking, am I ever going to be back?” said Nicoll-Klokstad.
Nicoll-Klokstad said when he first heard about Roger Tuivasa-Sheck’s return, he was excited to be back rubbing shoulders with the 2018 Dally M medallist.
Tuivasa-Sheck notched his 200th game in the NRL starting the match on the wing despite starting their last match against the Knights at fullback.
“He’s still my favourite player. I still look at him in awe of what he's done for the game and who he is as a player and person,” said Nicoll-Klokstad.
“It’s warranted everyone wanting Roger to play fullback… and it’s normal for that noise to happen, but I’m confident in my ability and what I can bring to the club,” said Nicoll-Klokstad.
Nicoll-Klokstad is looking forward to testing himself against Manly Sea Eagles fullback Tom Trbojevic in this weekend’s clash against the Sea Eagles.
“It’s an opportunity to compare myself to one of the greats of the game, I love playing against fullbacks like him.”
The Warriors injury list has also grown with the recent hamstring injury to Bunty Afoa, sidelining the prop for six to eight weeks. Luke Metcalf also sustained a leg fracture the week prior and will miss the majority of the 2024 season.
