A foal from champion racehorse Winx has smashed the Australian record at a Sydney yearling auction today.
The foal, labelled Lot 391, was snapped up for an eye-watering AUD $10 million, reportedly double the amount of the previous record sale.
9News named Debbie Kepitis of Woppitt Bloodstock as the purchaser.
The reason behind the record price was clear to see when looking at the pedigree of Lot 391's mother Winx.
Winx won the famous Cox Plate at Mooney Valley four times in a row between 2015 and 2018 — the only horse to have ever done so.
The previous Australian yearling record sale came in at AUD $5 million, but 9News reported that horse was put down in 2013 due to illness following a suspected spider bite.
The new record might not stand long. however, as Winx was currently pregnant again and due to give birth next year.
