One person has been found dead after a fire at a residential address in Whitianga yesterday.

Emergency services responded to the fire on Cholmondeley Cres at about 5.20pm.

A person was located dead inside the building, a police spokesperson said.

"A scene guard has been in place overnight, and police will be working with fire investigators to determine the cause of the fire."
