A pilot has been moderately injured after their light plane crashed north of Timaru this afternoon.
Emergency services responded to the crash landing at about 2.30pm.
A police spokesperson said officers responded to a report of a "microlight aircraft crash" in the Peel Forest area. There was only one person in the small plane, police said.
"The sole occupant removed themselves from the aircraft".
St John deployed an ambulance, helicopter and two response units to the scene.
A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "Our crews assessed and treated one patient in a moderate condition. The patient was airlifted to Christchurch hospital."
