The search for a 79-year-old woman missing in Waikato's Pureora Forest for two weeks has been suspended.

Judy Donovan has been missing since Saturday, March 23. She was part of a party of three that became separated in the forest.

Waikato West Area Commander Inspector Will Loughrin said the decision has been made to cease searching at this time.

Loughrin said the area has been searched extensively in the past two weeks but "unfortunately" Donovan has not been located.

Police and Donovan's family remain in contact with locals in the area "who have appropriate knowledge and experience" regarding the area and search.

"Police and Judy's family wish to thank everyone who has dedicated their time and effort assisting with the search," Loughrin said.

"While your efforts have not resulted in the outcome that we were all hoping for, the energy and compassion that you brought to the search did not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated."

He said police are providing support to Judy's family "for whom this is a very difficult time".

"Police want to see Judy Donovan brought home to her family and Police specialist Search and Rescue personnel are now planning how best to do this."

Anyone who has information which may assist in locating Donovan, who hasn't yet reported it to police, is asked to contact 105.
