It looked like another tough day was on the cards for Ryan Fox on the PGA Tour, until he made the back nine.
Fox has opened the Texas Open with a two-under par round of 70 after a superb recovery after the turn.
The Kiwi, ranked 49th in the world rankings, struggled with four bogeys and two birdies on the front nine to be two-over midway through, but from there he came alive.
Fox fired four birdies in five holes on the back nine and then another at the 17th to be right near the top of the leaderboard.
He couldn't see it out to end the round, with a wayward drive at 18 leading to a solitary bogey on the back nine, to card a two-under par round of 70.
At the end of his round, Fox was in a tie for sixth, with half the field still out on course.
The 37-year-old has been unable to find the best of his form that earned him a PGA Tour card, with his best finish this year on the main tour a tie for 35th and four missed cuts.
