Seven dead, over 700 injured after 7.7 quake hits Taiwan

At least seven people have been killed and 711 others have been injured after a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Taiwan on Wednesday morning.

- The earthquake struck about 18km south-southwest of Hualien around 8am local time (1pm NZDT)

- More than 87,000 homes and businesses across the country are without power, according to Taiwan electricity operator Taipower
