Lego has asked a police department in the US to stop digitally adding Lego heads to photos of suspects.
In a statement to Fox News, Murrieta Police Department Lt Jeremy Durrant said the toy company had requested it stop using Lego heads in social media posts.
"The Lego Group reached out to us and respectfully asked us to refrain from using their intellectual property in our social media content, which, of course, we understand and will comply with," he said.
In a post to Instagram last week, the department said they were using the Lego heads to comply with state laws that prohibit law enforcement from sharing suspect photos.
"The Murrieta Police Department prides itself on its transparency with the community and honours everyone's rights and protections as afforded by law, even suspects," the post read.
"In order to share what is happening in Murrieta, we chose to cover the faces of suspects to protect their identity while still aligning with the new law."
A spokesperson for the department said obscuring suspects' faces is nothing new to them — they have been using other properties like Shrek and Barbie in their posts.
Durrant said the department is "currently exploring other methods to continue publishing our content in a way that is engaging and interesting to our followers" without using the yellow plastic heads.
