A second person has been arrested in relation to an alleged "unprovoked" assault on two young men in Tauranga which left the pair seriously injured.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, March 3, when a "large" group of people allegedly attacked the two victims on The Strand.
Two 18-year-old men are due to reappear at Tauranga District Court on April 8 and April 12, police said today.
The first is charged with assaulting with intent to injure and the second is charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Police said they were arrested thanks to information from the public and staff inquiries.
Senior Sergeant Scott Merritt said police were continuing to work to identify a group of people who they believe can assist with inquiries into the assault.
"Police are taking this incident extremely seriously, there is no place for this violence in our community and we will follow up on any new information we receive in an attempt to locate and bring those responsible for this assault before the courts."
A number of inquiries have been conducted, including reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to the victims, he said.
"Police are urging anyone who knows what happened to call police."
