Auckland CBD waterfront restaurant Homeland will close its doors as a major redevelopment is set to take place in the area.
Celebrated Kiwi chef Peter Gordon, who co-founded the restaurant with business and life partner Alastair Carruthers, announced the imminent closure on Monday in a statement.
He said the landlord will not renew the restaurant's lease as the premises and wider surroundings are redeveloped.
Homeland, situated in Wynyard Quarter, also hosts a cooking school, and Gordon said "with great sadness, we are retreating".
"We will likely cease dining room service at the end of April, and the cooking school at the end of July."
He said staff were "hugely impacted" and asked for space while consultation occurred to figure out what was next.
"Homeland's purposes are not finished. The problem is premises."
Gordon also thanked sponsors, customers and kaimahi (staff) for the support given since the restaurant's opening.
Gordon has run restaurants in London, New York and Istanbul, returning to New Zealand in 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic and establishing Homeland.
It comes as several other influential restaurants have shut up shop around the country in recent times.
These include Auckland's Pasture and Inca Newmarket, and Hiakai, Shepherd and Field and Green in the capital.
