Residents at a rest home in Levin needed to be rescued overnight after part of the complex they were in went up in flames.
Crews from Levin, Palmerston North and the surrounding Horowhenua areas were called to Millvale House on Mako Mako Rd shortly after 3am, Fire and Emergency New Zealand said.
Upon arrival, crews found one wing of the complex was ablaze.
“Multiple” residents needed to be rescued from inside, and two are being treated for smoke inhalation.
No one was taken to hospital.
FENZ said the fire has now been extinguished, and an investigator is at the scene.
According to its website, the facility provides dementia and psychogeriatric care to its residents.
