New Zealand leaders react to Princess Kate's shock cancer reveal

Leaders from across the political aisle have sent their well wishes to Catherine, the Princess of Wales, following her shock cancer diagnosis.

After months out of the public eye, the princess revealed in a video message this morning she was in the “early stages” of preventative chemotherapy.

Among the chorus of world leaders sending their support to Kate were political leaders from the Government and the opposition.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said his thoughts are with the Princess in a post to X.

"I know Kiwis across the country will be wishing her well in her recovery," he said.

Former Prime Minister and Labour leader Chris Hipkins took to Facebook to send the Princess his well wishes.

"Wishing the Princess of Wales a speedy recovery following her recent cancer diagnosis.

"I’m sure cancer sufferers around the world will take comfort from her kind words and solidarity. May you all find strength for the challenges ahead," he posted.

Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters also shared his best wishes to the Royal Family.

"New Zealanders, and people right across the Commonwealth, will be wishing her a speedy recovery."

Across the ditch, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese send a message of support to Princess Kate, wishing her well.

"We are sending support and strength in this difficult time as she undergoes treatment, and we wish her well for a speedy recovery."
