1 Lower Hutt siblings suffer 'deliberate, horrific' injuries over sustained period
Siblings, aged four and five, have a "multitude" of broken bones and extensive bruising, one of them with brain bleeds and severe internal injuries, police say.
The injuries were so "horrific" they required hospital admission and surgery.
"These injuries do not just happen; it’s likely someone knows something or has seen something and that’s why we need the community’s help," said Detective Senior Sergeant Rebecca Cotton.
2 Nine-year-old among five allegedly caught in fleeing stolen vehicle
Police observed a group of youths allegedly inside a stolen vehicle travelling through Auckland's Takanini last night at around 7.30pm, a spokesperson said. A member of the public was allegedly struck in Manurewa and "incredibly...they were unharmed."
All five, aged between nine and 13, were taken into custody and referred to Youth Aid Services.
