Fresh charges have been laid in the wake of an alleged stabbing murder in Northland earlier this month.
Emergency services were called to a property on Iwitaua Rd, Mangamuka at around 9pm on March 3 after reports of a person being stabbed. The man who was stabbed was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly after, a 50-year-old man was arrested nearby and charged with murder.
Later, police said a 39-year-old woman had also been arrested and charged with possessing an offensive weapon. But now, she's seen her charges upgraded, police explained in a statement this afternoon.
"A 38-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman will appear in the Whangārei District court today charged with murder," police said.
"Both were already before the court on charges of assault and possession of an offensive weapon, respectively.
"Three people have now been arrested and charged in relation to this incident."
Detective Inspector Al Symonds said investigators have worked hard to piece together the events of the evening.
"We are not seeking anyone else in relation to this case and we want to again reassure the community that this appears to be an isolated incident," he said.
"We also recognise this involves the death of a person, which has a significant impact on those closest to the victim and the wider community.
"However, there are now three people before the court and we need to let the judicial process take place."
