One person is in custody following a "threatening phone call" that put Tauranga Hospital into lockdown for several hours today, police said.
Police were present at the hospital along with increased security personnel while the situation was resolved.
A spokesperson said "police are no longer in attendance".
Controlled access for staff via swipe cards and vetting of patients and whānau was required during the lockdown, a Bay of Plenty DHB spokesperson said.
A Bay of Plenty DHB spokesperson earlier said "a member of the public" made a threatening phone call to Tauranga Hospital this morning.
"The incident is currently being investigated. The hospital will remain in lockdown until it is resolved."
A hospital Incident Operations Centre Incident Management Team was activated until the situation was resolved, the spokesperson said.
"The Emergency Department remains open and patients who have appointments at the hospital should still attend at their scheduled time."
A police spokesperson said the hospital had been locked down as a precaution but police were confident there was no immediate threat.
