A pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle in Northland's Kaipara District this afternoon.
The crash on West Coast Rd in Te Kōpuru was reported to police shortly after 3pm.
"Emergency services attended but, sadly, the pedestrian died at the scene," a spokesperson said.
The road remained closed while the Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination, motorists were asked to avoid the area.
Te Kōpuru, about 13km from Dargaville, was the largest community on Northland's Pouto Peninsula and had a population of just under 500.
