Man critically hurt after early morning Auckland assault

A man was rushed to hospital with critical injuries following an assault in Auckland early this morning.

A police spokesperson said officers were called to Station Rd in Ōtāhuhu at about 1.25am after reports of an altercation "between a male and a group not believed to be known to each other".

The man was rushed to the hospital with "critical injuries" but the spokesperson said: "These are not currently believed to be life-threatening.

"Enquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of what has occurred leading up to the assault and to establish the identities of the persons in the group involved.

"Anyone with information that may assist our investigation is asked to contact police via our 105 phone service."
