Writer David Seidler arrives at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in 2011.

Decorated screenwriter David Seidler, 86, has reportedly died on a fishing trip in New Zealand over the weekend.

Seidler won an Oscar in 2011 for his work on 2010 film The King's Speech, taking home the Academy Award for best original screenplay.

His manager Jeff Aghassi confirmed Seidler's death.

"David was in the place he loved most in the world — New Zealand — doing what gave him the greatest peace which was fly-fishing," Aghassi said in a statement to Variety.

"If given the chance, it is exactly as he would have scripted it."

Historical drama The King's Speech counted Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter among its stars.

The movie also won best picture, best director and best actor that year.

A police spokesperson said his death "doesn't appear to be something we have a record of at this time".
