Two people are speaking with police after a reported gun sighting prompted a large police presence in central Auckland this morning.

Armed police flocked to Hobson St in Auckland's CBD this morning, with a 1News reporter on the scene seeing 13 officers and six patrol cars in attendance.

A police spokesperson said a firearm was reportedly seen in the area, triggering the response.

A witness said he was in his room looking out the window when he saw two people having an argument on the street.

"I looked out, and then the other guy stood up, and stepped the other one out, and then pulled out a gun, loaded it, pointed it at him, and said he'd shoot him."

He said the gun "looked like a Glock".

1News understands one of the men entered the building after the incident. It is unclear if he is a resident.
