Christchurch Adventure Park is set to reopen on Friday after a fire tore through the facility, forcing its closure.
The Port Hills blaze burned through one-third of the surrounding forest last month, as well as damaging the park's fence lines and signage.
While the adventure park’s infrastructure escaped the flames largely unscathed, the cleanup effort has been a mammoth task.
Park general manager Anne Newman told 1News the damage "could have been a lot worse".
"When we saw the fire happening, we feared the worst, but we are actually miraculously very well."
Newman said staff are "so excited to get to reopen this week".
"It's been a long four, five weeks but it's nowhere near as bad as we first anticipated."
It’s the second time the park was forced to close for repairs following a blaze in the Port Hills.
In 2017, the park suffered extensive damage in a fire, shutting it down for 10 months. It was later ruled that the park’s lift – which was kept running with seats attached during the blaze – had spread the flames.
Having learned from the experience, crews were able to quickly remove all the chairs from the lift, preventing any damage. They were reinstalled late last week, with final testing being carried out ahead of its reopening on March 22.
"We’re going through all the brake checks, cable inspections, ziplines are having cable inspections. Trail crew are working really hard to get our walking tracks and our riding tracks back into place," Newman said.
And it's not just staff getting ready for the big day – keen riders were also making sure their bikes were in tip-top shape for the trails.
"We've had a few people come in really excited and talking about it opening and getting their bikes all set up again," Scotty Browns Bike Emporium’s Robbie Shepherd said.
