Australian showjumper Shane Rose could miss out on his 2024 Olympic pursuits after he fractured his pelvis and broke his femur in a "nasty fall" yesterday.
The three-time Olympic showjumping medallist came under fire last month after he wore a mankini to a fancy-dress event at Wallaby Hill, leading to a complaint and an Equestrian Australia review.
Now, the 50-year-old has shared to his social media that his Olympic dreams may be in doubt after suffering a fall from his horse during a cross country schooling session on Friday.
"After a fantastic week in New Zealand Shane and Virgil secured their Olympic qualifications, this week Shane was bought back down to earth literally," the statement said.
"Shane is currently in ICU with a badly broken femur and a fractured pelvis and ribs. He also suffered a heavy concussion".
The statement posted on Friday afternoon said Rose still had his sights set on Paris despite the latest setback.
"While the timing is unfortunate we are hopeful there is adequate time for him to recover and still be able to continue his preparation schedule for the Paris Olympics Games".
