A well-known Melbourne snake catcher is fighting for his life after being bitten by a snake last weekend.
Mark Pelley, better known as The Snake Hunter, was bitten on his hand after his equipment broke while catching a tiger snake on Sunday.
His daughter Aishah Pelley reported how his condition deteriorated almost immediately after the bite.
"The venom went straight into his circulation system from a deep bite and started to have neurological effects immediately," she said in a post to social media.
"I watched him lose consciousness very fast in front of my eyes. Craig and I both thought we watched him die.
"He couldn't talk, (or) breathe properly and the hospital asked me to discuss him possibly go on ventilation."
According to 9News, Pelleywas a prominent figure around Melbourne and this was the first serious bite he has suffered in 14 years on the job.
A GoFundMe page has been started for his treatment costs.
