A widespread outage has left McDonald’s branches around the globe unable to process orders.

New Zealand outlets have also been affected.

Would-be customers have taken to social media to air their frustration.

"McDonald’s Ingleburn is still serving but have to go to the counter and order and then they take the order back to the kitchen, very old school," one X user in Australia said.

There were similar issues reported in Japan.

"I literally go into a Mac with my mother who has just landed and turns out there is a nationwide McDonalds Japan system outage, they only sell nuggets/fries and take cash only 😂 staff are calculating the totals on paper," one man said.

In a statement, a McDonald's spokesperson told 1News, "We are aware of a technology outage which impacted our restaurants; the issue is now being resolved".

"We thank customers for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused."

The spokesperson confirmed the issue "is not related to a cybersecurity event".

Some restaurants are now "back online and serving customers, and we are continuing to work to restore all remaining restaurants as soon as possible".
