Two vehicles have been impounded by police due to "illegal street racing" across Hastings earlier this month.

Police said they received reports of the "anti-social driving behaviours" in the Apley Rd/Dartmoor Rd area in Puketapu between 9.20pm and 11.30pm on March 1.

After an investigation, police impounded two vehicles for 28 days due to "sustained loss of traction".

Police were now looking to locate other vehicles used in the illegal street racing.

"Police acknowledge and thank members of the Puketapu community for reporting their concerns to us and continue to urge the public to contact police when they see illegal activities like this happening," police said, in a statement.

Anyone who saw anti-social driving behaviours was asked to contact police with "as much detail as you can safely gather, like number plates and descriptions or footage of vehicles".
