WA cop and fiancée were announcing pregnancy when he died

March 14, 2024

It’s been revealed the fiancée of a Western Australian police officer killed in a “freak accident” at their engagement party is pregnant with his baby.

Liam Trimmer and Lilly Watts, a nurse, were celebrating their engagement with friends on Saturday night, when Trimmer fell and cut his neck. Despite emergency services’ best efforts to save him, he died at the scene.

Now, a Gofundme set up by one of Watts’ friends revealed Watts was 14 weeks pregnant.

"The evening was meant to be a joyous celebration of Lilly and Liam's recent engagement and announcing their pregnancy, a huge milestone in their journey together," Melinda Kelly, a fellow nurse, wrote.

"Friends and family gathered to share in their happiness.

"In a cruel twist of events, Liam's life was cut short leaving behind a void that can never be filled."

She said the money would go towards helping Watts pay for counselling and daily costs while she prepares to give birth.

“Lilly now faces the prospect of raising a child without her beloved partner while also grappling with the financial responsibilities that come with homeownership.

"Lilly's resilience and unwavering spirit have always been her defining qualities, and now, more than ever, she needs our love and support," she said.

So far, the Gofundme has raised over AUD$100,000 (NZ$107,513)
