Warriors name unchanged side despite injury concerns

March 13, 2024
Warriors hooker Wayde Egan went off with an elbow injury in last Friday's loss to the Sharks.

The Warriors have named an unchanged starting squad for this weekend's match against the Melbourne Storm.

Despite losing their opening round match against the Sharks, Warriors head coach Andrew Webster has chosen to back the same players that ran out onto Go Media Stadium at Mt Smart last week.

Kurt Capewell and Wayde Egan have been named in the starting side for Saturday nights match, despite both experiencing some injury concerns this week.

Capewell is returning from a rib issue and the Warriors coach confirmed he has recovered in time for the match against the Melbourne Storm this weekend.

Egan left the field in the second half against the Sharks with a suspected elbow injury but Webster said the hooker’s injury wasn’t long term.

“We're happy long term it's going to be okay… if he can pass and tackle, he'll play.”

The Sharks scored three unanswered tries on Friday night to turn around a 12-0 deficit.

Webster said too many errors lead to missed opportunities for points on Friday night.

“The period before half time we could have fired a knockout blow, but all we wanted to do was drop the ball and give away penalties,” Webster said.

The Warriors coach put it down to a case of first week rustiness and said most teams weren’t at their best for round one.

“We're not going to be perfect.”

This weekend is the first away trip of the season and Webster hopes to see Warriors fans turn up in good numbers in Melbourne.

“Let’s see if we can get a ‘Wahs’ chant at some stage.”

The Warriors play the Melbourne Storm in Melbourne on Saturday. Kick off 9.35pm.
