Police investigate fatal Christchurch stabbing

A man who was fatally stabbed at Christchurch City Mission on Sunday evening has been named by police.

He was 22-year-old local man Jordan Morris, who died following an incident at the Hereford St property on March 10.

Officers were called to the address shortly after 10pm on Sunday following reports of a stabbing.

"Police would like to extend their condolences to Jordan's family, who are being supported at this difficult time," a spokesperson said Tuesday.

A 67-year-old man has been arrested, charged with murder and would be reappearing in the Christchurch High Court on April 12.

Mission services affected by inquiry

City Missioner Corinne Haines told 1News the Christchurch City Mission's operations would still be impacted today as police continued investigations at the locked-down 276 Hereford St site.

"That means the City Mission's food bank will continue to only provide food parcels for booked-in clients but will not accept new clients," she said in a statement.

"There will be no men's day programme and no onsite consultations can be held with our social workers or alcohol and other drug counsellors".

Haines said clients at the men's night shelter have found alternative accommodation but beds would be provided in an another area of the complex for those who had nowhere to go.
