Celebs in sync? Stars see double on the Oscars red carpet

Ariana Grande and Keltie Knight need to start phoning each other before turning up to the same event

There are only so many stylists to go round in showbiz – and it seems some of Hollywood’s biggest names were using the same one for the Oscars today. Anna Murray checks out the sartorial similarities from the red carpet.

Turning up to a party wearing the same outfit as someone else happens to everyone at some point – even celebrities.

Here are the stars who aligned in style – for better or worse – at this year's Academy Awards.

Multiple ways with monochrome

Monochrome was big on the Oscars red carpet this year, with many stars choosing different takes on the black and white theme.

Past Lives actor Greta Lee opted for an elegant black velvet Loewe gown, adorned with white strips of fabric, while Best Actress nominee Carey Mulligan also adopted for a black velvet Balenciaga number with a white tulle mermaid skirt.

Past Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence hopped on the black and white trend too, choosing to wear polka dots, albeit extremely fancy Dior Haute Couture ones. According to Vogue, Lawrence’s gown took 1500 hours to create, using an elaborate fabric technique to create a rippling effect.

Dramatic necklines

If you can’t wear a dress with a dramatic neckline at the Oscars, then when can you?

Actor Eva Longoria walked the red carpet in a black, off-the-shoulder Tamara Ralph gown featuring extremely pointy shoulders.

And then Best Actress nominee Sandra Hüller said “hold my beer” and walked down the red carpet with even pointier shoulders, courtesy of Schiaparelli haute couture.

Slinky sparkles

It’s not an Oscars red carpet without a slew of sparkly, slinky gowns.

Lupita Nyong'o sported a custom powder blue Giorgio Armani Privé dress, adorned with crystal beads and feathers, while Barbie director Greta Gerwig opted for a champagne Gucci number.

Best Supporting Actress nominee Emily Blunt also went for champagne sparkles, with a Schiaparelli haute couture number that appeared to include… shimmery Y-front undies?

Pink and pouffy

Imagine being brave enough to wear a voluminous pink gown that looks not unlike something that has been cut off during surgery to the Oscars and discovering that somebody else decided to do the same.

That was the reality for singer and actor Ariana Grande and Canadian TV presenter Keltie Knight.

Boring in black?

At the other end of the fashion spectrum, several stars chose to wear more sedate, long-sleeved black gowns.

Past Oscar winner Jamie-Lee Curtis wore a Dolce & Gabbana version, while awards presenter Catherine O’Hara paired her long black sleeves with a little sparkle.

But red carpet presenter Vanessa Hudgens trumped them all with that trend, accessorising her black gown with the ultimate red carpet accessory – a baby bump.
