Police have confirmed injuries have been reported from an explosion at a central Wellington apartment building.
"Crews were alerted to an alarm activation at an apartment building around 1pm," FENZ said.
"Upon arrival crews were able to ascertain there had been an explosion."
There were 11 crews in attendance.
Traffic is blocked on Boulcott Street and police have asked motorists to avoid the area.
"Emergency services are in attendance at an incident in Church Street, Wellington after receiving a report of a fire in a building shortly before 1pm," police said.
"Injuries are reported and the area is cordoned to allow emergency services to respond."
A 1News reporter at the scene said there were at least six fire appliances, along with multiple police cars and ambulance.
Emergency services were outside a building at the top of Church St. A statement from FENZ on the incident was expected shortly.
