Double-fatal crash at Poukawa, south of Hastings

A crash has claimed two lives and critically injured another in Hawke's Bay, police have confirmed.

A statement from police said two people died following the two-vehicle crash on State Highway 2, Poukawa, at 2.32pm.

The two died at the scene and a third person received critical injuries.

The serious crash unit was in attendance, and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

Police said the road remained closed on Friday night and detours were in place on State Highway 50.
