New Zealand Food Safety has extended a recall of Zany Zeus halloumi cheese to include more batches due to the possible presence of bacteria.
On March 2, batches of the Zany Zeus cheese with best-before dates of March 8 were recalled due to Bacillus cereus, the Ministry for Primary Industries said on its website.
The recall notice was updated today to include batches with a best before date of April 15.
Illness from Bacillus cereus typically began one to six hours after consuming the contaminated food, according to MPI.
Symptoms included nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
"Affected products should not be consumed. There have been no reports of associated illness. However, if you have consumed this product and have any concerns about your health, seek medical advice," MPI said.
