Travellers waiting to fly out of Queenstown were held up by substantial delays this morning following a security breach at the city's airport.
The breach at the Queenstown Airport occurred when a passenger entered the domestic departures lounge without going through security checks.
A spokesperson for Queenstown Airport said the area was constantly monitored, and the incident was picked up "within a minute".
"In accordance with security protocols, all domestic passengers had to be screened again."
The spokesperson said aviation security deferred the screening of international passengers to ensure the already-screened domestic travellers could be processed as quick as possible, however the incident occurred late morning at the airport's "busiest time of the day".
The airport worked with airlines and Aviation Security to get flights back up and running, and the statement from the airport expressed gratitude for the cooperation of passengers.
"We are... sorry for the inconvenience and stress this caused."
