1 Youth offender boot camps 'become really abusive' – lawyer
A lawyer and advocate has hit out at the Government's plan to pilot military-style boot camps for young offenders.
Children's Minister Karen Chhour yesterday announced that the camps – which will have a "military-style component" – will be running by the middle of this year.
Lawyer Amanda Hill, who has represented abuse in state care survivors, told Breakfast she was "appalled that this idea has come back around again after generations of failed attempts".

An Auckland city apartment is going to auction next week with a reserve of $1.
The owner bought the two-bedroom, two-storey home on Quay St 18 years ago.
It will go to auction on March 14.
3 Bill passes to remove taxpayer funding for cultural reports
Cultural reports as part of sentencing will no longer be paid for by the taxpayer, after a bill passed in Parliament this morning.
The Legal Services Amendment Bill passed its third reading under urgency in Parliament.
Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith said the Section 27 reports would bring to an end "a cottage industry costing the taxpayers millions with no benefits to the real victims of crime".
4 Man, 90, told to get new phone so he can use bank's app
Alan Weir's been told to upgrade his phone to access his bank's app after it was updated to improve security.
Previously, the 90-year-old and his wife could access the app at the touch of a thumb using his trusty iPhone 6.
The Weirs have tried out the new system, but found it too complicated to remember. Alan has since upgraded his phone.
5 CCTV shows group ransacking petrol station amid spate of attacks
Two more Auckland gas stations were burgled overnight – the latest in a series of of incidents in the city.
The robberies occurred at a Caltex in Remuera, and a Z Energy station in Green Bay.
It comes after a Caltex on Glen Eden was targeted early yesterday morning, while a Papatoetoe station was hit on Monday night. Another Caltex was targeted on Sunday morning.
