Three men have been arrested following a "violent assault" in the Hutt Valley last week.

Police were called to a property on High Street in Taita on Monday, February 26, where they found a person had been assaulted.

The group of offenders allegedly launched their attack at the victim's workplace before fleeing the scene.

The victim was rushed to hospital in a critical condition. They are now "stable and recovering".

Following an investigation into the attack, police have arrested three men, aged 26, 34 and 35.

Detective Inspector Nick Pritchard said: "This was a targeted incident, and there is no ongoing safety risk for the wider community."

All three men will appear in the Hutt Valley District Court later this month. The 26-year-old will appear on March 14, while the 34 and 35-year-old will appear on March 19.

"We hope that this result provides reassurance to our community that police take incidents of this kind very seriously and work hard to locate offenders, arrest and charge them and bring them before the court," Pritchard said.

It comes after a busy week for police in Taita.

Last week on Thursday, February 29, more than 200 young people were reportedly involved in a huge street brawl.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, February 27, following a firearms incident that saw schools locked down. He has appeared in the Hutt Valley District Court charged with resisting police and using a firearm against police.

Hutt Valley Area Commander Inspector Robert Rutene said last week residents "can expect to see police throughout the area to provide some comfort and reassurance to locals".
