A murder charge has been laid after a man was allegedly stabbed to death at a Far North address last night, police say.
Emergency services were called to a property on Iwitaua Rd, Mangamuka, at around 9pm after reports of a person being stabbed.
In an update, Detective Inspector Al Symonds said a 50-year-old man arrested nearby has now been charged with murder.
"Our investigation teams have worked hard to reach this point. While an arrest has been made, there are still a number of inquiries yet to be completed."
The man will appear in Kaikohe District Court today, police said.
Later on Monday, police said a 39-year-old woman had also been arrested and charged with possesses offensive weapon.
She is due to appear in the Kaitaia District Court tomorrow.
Scene guards are still in place at the Mangamuka property while a scene examination is completed.
Earlier, Symonds said police were told an altercation had taken place at the property and a man had received a number of stab wounds.
"Sadly the man was pronounced deceased the scene."
"We know this will have been a shock to the community, however we would like to reassure people that this appears to be an isolated incident.
"This is a tragic situation and we are ensuring there is support in place for those closest to the victim.
"At this stage, police are not in a position to release details of the deceased, however we will look to provide these details in due course."
