A fourth charge is set to be laid against former Green MP Golriz Ghahraman, 1News understands.

Ghahraman was set to appear in Auckland District Court on Wednesday but is now set to appear in court on March 20.

The 43-year-old was previously charged with three counts of shoplifting.

The first two shoplifting charges allegedly relate to incidents at Ponsonby retailer Scotties Boutique on December 21 and 23, 2023.

The third shoplifting charge allegedly relates to Wellington retailer Cre8iveworkx after an incident on October 22, 2023.

At this stage, there is no information regarding the fourth charge.

Auckland District Court documents show that Ghahraman is accused of stealing $2060 worth of clothing from Scotties Boutique in Auckland's Ponsonby on December 21 last year, and $7223 worth of clothing from the same store on December 23.

The third charge dates back further, with the ex-MP accused of shoplifting clothes valued at $695 from Cre8iveworx in Wellington on October 22. In total, the value of goods allegedly taken is $9978.

The latest development marks the second time Ghahraman's apperance in court has been delayed.

Stuff reports Ghahraman's lawyer Annabel Cresswell said the latest delay relates to the new charge being laid.

After her resignation, Ghahraman said her mental health was being badly affected by the stresses relating to her work.

"This has led me to act in ways that are completely out of character. I am not trying to excuse my actions, but I do want to explain them.

"People should, rightly, expect the highest standards of behaviour from their elected representatives. I fell short. I'm sorry.

"It's not a behaviour I can explain because it's not rational in any way, and after medical evaluation, I understand I'm not well."
