Police are seeking information from the public after a mayday call was heard this afternoon in the Dunedin area.
The call was received around 3.35pm and did not specify a particular location.
Police have checked a number of boat ramps in the area, including Carey's Bay, Back Beach, Portobello, Hoopers Inlet and the peninsula, but have not found anything of note.
Those who may have made the mayday call, who are now safe, are asked to get in touch with police.
Also, if you know someone who has been out boating in the area and has not yet returned, police would like to hear from you.
