A New South Wales cop has appeared in court this afternoon charged with the murders of ex-TV reporter Jesse Baird and his Qantas flight attendant boyfriend Luke Davies in Sydney.

Constable Beau Lamarre handed himself in to Bondi Police Station around 10.30am (local time) this morning as police continued an urgent search for the couple — although the nature of the charges made it clear police believe they are dead.

This morning, it was revealed the 28-year-old NSW officer had also gone missing following a search conducted on his Belmaine home.

Lamarre has since been transferred to Waverley Police Station, where he was arrested.

Police told reporters this afternoon a projectile was found at the couple's home which was matched to a New South Wales Police firearm.

A white van used to transport and dispose of the pair's bodies has been found.

Police say they are searching for the bodies of the couple.

Media wait outside Waverley Court House in New South Wales as Constable Beau Lamarre is charged with the murders of Jesse Baird and Luke Davies.

Baird, 26, and Davies, 29, had not been seen since Monday night.

The alert was first sparked when items belonging to the missing couple, including a watch, credit cards, and bloodied clothing, were found in a skip bin on Wilbar Ave in Cronulla, 30km from their homes, on Wednesday morning.

The discovery led police to Baird’s share house in Paddington, where officers "immediately established a crime scene" after a significant amount of blood and upended furniture was found.

"We do believe there has been some sort of incident that likely occurred at the Paddington address (on Monday morning),” Radmore said yesterday.

"Witnesses described it as a verbal argument. It wasn’t reported to police at the time."

Police said Baird’s phone had shown activity on Tuesday but it was not known who was using the phone at that time.

Stalking claim reported

9News reports Baird had told friends he was being stalked by a police officer.

"The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward," police said.

Police were appealing for information relating to the whereabouts of a white Toyota HiAce with NSW registration CW82PM, and the movements of the vehicle since Monday evening.
