A man's home is his castle, the expression goes — and a five-bedroom castle in Auckland's Half Moon Bay is on the market right now, complete with a tower and dry moat.
The property is aptly located on Prince Regent Drive.
Realtor Jame Hu told Breakfast this morning: "It's a very famous building in East Auckland, it's an icon really.
"It was built in 1979, I've heard a few stories that I haven't been able to confirm yet.
"It's a doting father building for his daughter, or a doting husband built it for his wife."
The current owner's attraction to the castle was a bit different to what you might expect.
"It looks like the traditional house back in Beijing where he's from," Hu explained. "There is a central courtyard surrounded by bedrooms.
"And the wall resembles the Great Wall of China, that's why the current owner bought it."
Plenty of people are interested in taking over the 685sq metre kingdom.
"The open homes are busy, we've had over 100 parties through already."
Asked what a dry moat is, Hu was concise: "Basically a moat without water."
And the price point is "surprisingly affordable", he added.
The property's capital value is currently at a little over $1.8 million.
"We are asking for interest over $1.7 [million]", Hu said.
"The listing has been viewed on TradeMe alone around 60,000 times."
