Zeus — described as Wellington Zoo's "legendary lemur" — is retiring from the fathering business after receiving a contraceptive implant.

He visited Te Kōhanga The Nest for the medical procedure.

In a Facebook post, Wellington Zoo said Zeus has fathered 14 children in the past two years.

"It's time for a well-deserved break to ensure he doesn't feel... overworked?" the post read.

While Zeus was at Te Kōhanga, the vets also carried out a physical exam, took a blood sample, and polished his teeth.

"This father of the year is back home with his conspiracy (family group) and continues to serve as an occasional babysitter for the four mothers of his children."
