Person found dead after house bus fire near Hokitika

A person has been found dead after a house bus fire near Hokitika on the South Island's West Coast.

Emergency services were called to the Blue Spur property at about 4am this morning.

Police said one person made it out of the house bus unharmed but "sadly a second person was located deceased".

Firefighters had found the house bus "well ablaze" when they arrived at the scene.

St John Ambulance said it had assessed one patient but they weren't taken to hospital.

A police spokesperson said police will help Fire and Emergency New Zealand determine the circumstances of the fire.
