Foodstuffs is responding to reports of a fly found in a packaged chicken schnitzel at Upper Hutt Pak'nSave, calling it a "very rare occurance" and asking customers to report any further concerns.
"The packet of chicken, which was packed at the store has been located, removed from the shelf and the Pak'nSave Upper Hutt team are currently looking into how the fly got in," said a Foodstuffs spokesperson.
"We take food safety very seriously and have strict processes and protocols in place to ensure we maintain the highest standards.
"Pak'nSave Upper Hutt have an excellent health & food safety record.
"Although this is a very rare occurrence, if something is spotted, we’d encourage customers to alert a member of the team in-store straight away, so it can be immediately removed from the shelf and investigated."
It's the latest incident in a series of incidents at supermarkets across the country prompting investigations and concerns.
Earlier this month, a mouse was found in a Countdown deli salad in Christchurch.
A mouse was also found in Auckland's Pak'nSave Lincoln Road, and another Countdown Dunedin South has remained closed after a persistent rat problem.
