The reopening of the Dunedin South Countdown, where several rats have been found, has been delayed until at least Friday after a further rat was captured this morning.
Speaking to 1News, a Woolworths New Zealand spokesperson confirmed the capture.
The store was closed on February 9, after a spate of reports about rats being sighted.
Woolworths stores across the country have been battling a rodent issue, with a small mouse found in a deli salad in a Countdown in Christchurch Eastgate on Wednesday, February 7.
It was later revealed food was sold from the deli after the mouse sighting, and other items around the salad in the deli were not immediately removed. There were two further sales that night.
A mouse was also spotted on Tuesday, February 13 at Pak'nSave Lincoln Road.
On Friday, February 16, Woolworths issued an apology to customers for the "distress or inconvenience" caused by episodes involving pests in its Countdown supermarkets. It admitted "improvements" could be made.
It confirmed Woolworths NZ would also be reviewing its work with pest control contractor Rentokil "to ensure that any pest management challenges are being appropriately escalated and addressed, and that the right information is accessible".
