'Bus Sotp' - Road marking typo leaves locals scratching heads

The bus stop on Te Atatu Rd that has been misspelled as "BUS SOTP".

Locals in a West Auckland suburb have been left scratching their heads over a new set of bus stop markings.

One of the stops on Te Atatū Rd near the local library on the Te Atatū Peninsula has the words “bus sotp” marked out in big yellow letters.

An employee at a local business confirmed the mistake to 1News, calling it “quite embarrassing”.

“Especially embarrassing for the guy who put it there,” she said.

Another said the mistake was "super inconvenient" for everyone in the area.

In a statement to 1News, Auckland Transport infrastructure and fleet specification manager, Edward Wright said: "AT is aware of a spelling error made by our contractor when they were installing a new bus stop in Te Atatū Peninsula last night as part of our North-West bus improvements.

"The new bus stop pairs up with an existing bus stop across the road, letting us service the town centre from both directions and provide a better connection to the Western Express (WX1)."

He confirmed the error would be fixed tonight "if the weather allows".

"It will be re-painted at the contractor’s expense, with no cost to AT."
